Native American Dance

Many cultural groups around the world have their own unique style of dance that accompanies a range of rituals. Native American Indians are no exception. Their dance is a valued tradition among the first nation of North America. A variety of dances are put on during family gatherings. These include marriage ceremonies and birthdays. On top of that, there are many other kinds of dances which promote harvest or those used in religious ceremonies. One should note that Native American dance is not only used for special occasions. Many Native American Indians participate in custom dance just for fun.

There are many different tribal groups living within the United States and Canada. Each group has their own distinct Native American dance that sets them apart. One example, the Indians in Alaska and Canada include their own different types of song and dance into their rituals and ceremonies. In many cases instruments are used in songs. The Indian drum has often been played and intended to move to the Native Americans to dance. Often times Native American dancers disguise themselves with masks. This all adds to a party festive mood. The typical dance maneuver includes lots of movements with the arms and upper body.

Indians that reside in the United States are primarily located in the plain states, parts of the northern United States, and parts of the South. Each tribal group adopts their own custom dance. American Indians have long participated in Powwows. Dance powwows are common and held usually for fun. They are common at family reunions, Weddings and parties Etc. each powwow has it's specific rules. It is important to follow the rules implemented by the tribe. If you venture into participating in a Native American dance, please note that most dances either consist of all women or all men. Also dancers usually move in a circle. This is a way that Native American Indians remain symbolically connected to their family and traditions.
